S– Substitute. What are you able to swap out? Components, materials, people?
C– Combine. Mix and match your product with other related services or products.
A– Adapt. Change the purpose or function of your bonus to dovetail your product.
M– Modify. What can you change about the bonus to make it more relevant to the product or more attractive as a bonus.
P — Put to another use. How is the bonus able to be used? How can it be useful to your customer.
E — Eliminate. What can you do to reduce the cost of the bonus to you.
R — Reverse. Turn inside out or upside down.
James says that by using the S.C.A.M.P.E.R. method, you can easily identify a good bonus to offer with your product to create an added value that will draw customers to use you to obtain the product instead of your competition. By adding a claim process in which customers must leave their names and e-mail addresses, you build a contact for a future sale. Also, by offering the bonus, you’ve created some goodwill with the buyer. Who won’t hesitate to use you first in the future when buying products.
Another added benefit of the S.C.A.M.P.E.R. method is that it creates another product for you to sell — the bonus. By providing a quality bonus along with your product, you will get calls from several customers who will just wish to purchase the bonus.
